Description
DT-2236B A tachometer that uses
light to measure the rotational speed of a machine's shaft or disk is called a
photoelectric tachometer. When the disks rotate their holes, and the opaque
part comes alternately between the light source and the light sensor. A light
electric tachometer is used to measure speeds up to 10,000 r.p.m. For measuring
motor speed.

Advantages
- Digital output voltage is obtained, and so there is no need
to analog from digital conversion.
- Pulses of constant amplitude are available which simplify
the electronic circuitry.
Disadvantages
- The lifespan of a light source is about 50,000 hours. So the
light source needs to be replaced in time.
- The accuracy of this method depends on the error represented
by the unit pulse.
- These errors can be minimized by using the gating period.
